The work Cielo, conceived during the URRA residency, takes the form of a mobile cart that functions as a performative micro-architecture. The piece is not just an object, but a device for slowing down that invites the viewer to pause radically and perform a simple act: looking at the sky.
The origin of the work lies in the political question about time: how long has it been since we last consciously observed the sky? This question critically challenges the speed and alienation of the daily routine imposed by hegemonic productivity. Art here functions as an existential brake.
The structure is designed with a dual symbolic function. Constructed of wood and fabric (humble and lightweight materials), it creates an intimate and protective space, functioning as a capsule of attention that isolates the individual from the surrounding noise. Simultaneously, the open oval at the top establishes a direct and privileged connection between the body and the firmament.
This design transforms a passive gesture into a performative and reflective experience. The body, by submitting to the structure, becomes the mediator between the earthly and the cosmic. Pause is promoted as an act of resistance, recovering the time that consumer society renders invisible. The work criticises constant distraction and disconnection from the environment. By focusing the gaze upwards, the artist proposes an existential and ecological reorientation, restoring attention as a practice of care and a way of renegotiating the essential relationship between the individual, the environment and time. It is a nomadic sculpture of contemplation that politicises the simple act of looking up.
